…was RIDICULOUS.

I mean I was bummed when I heard Lincoln wasn’t going to be there, but that was me being super selfish.

I will post in the next day or two a few things I took away from the conference.

Today God brought me down a notch.

I have been so selfish.

I have sought my own gain and what makes me look good.

I have been drunk with myself.

So today I decided to respond to this revalation by encouraging others.

This is one of the notes I passed out at our rehearsal tonight.

Each member has encouraged me in some way so I decided to share that with them.

I met with them individually to build them up and then challenged them by telling them they how I wanted to see them grow over the next 2-3 months.

I pray that they feel valued and know that there is no way I could do my job without them.

I pray that I could lead them better.

I pray that God would use us directly to see lives changed.

I pray that I am reduced to nothing and all that is left is You.

Incline my heart to Your testimonies, and not to selfish gain! Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in Your ways.” -Psalm 119:36-37

Thank You, Jesus.

HEALER

If you are involved in any kind of ministry, especially worship music ministry, you have probably been impacted to some degree or at least heard the song “Healer” by Mike Gugliemucci. The song was featured on Hillsong’s latest album “This Is Our God” and has created tremendous hope and drawn many people to truly believe that nothing is impossible for our God, and that He is reliable and He is enough.

Today an article was published in Australia stating that Mike Gugliemucci faked the terminal illness he claimed he wrote the song about.

I personally have not led this song. Yet. I don’t think that the fact that he faked the illness will keep me from leading the song. The song is powerful. The song is true. This incident proves that no one is too high to fall and that God can use and song in spite of the messenger being jacked up.

I am praying for Mike’s family. I am praying for the people that have been affected by the song. I am praying for hearts that will want to hold this against him.

Our God is a God of second chances, and we should respond with love. Jesus has already forgiven him.

Several weeks ago I was riding around in a car with David McCaman (boss and friend) preparing to film a promotional video for a car wash fundraiser for the students at FBCSmyrna. Myself and Canaan Chapman (my intern buddy) went through an automated car wash in the bed of a Ford Ranger. The water is surprising cold in those things and the spinning brushes don’t really hurt. I washed my hair in one. Here is the video.

I took one thing away from the day, and it had nothing to do with a car wash or making a video.

In the car on the way back to the church David asked me a question that has been echoing in my head since that day.

What is next? (regarding corporate worship/the worship genre/service programming)

Being a 19 year old worship leader/intern I almost feel unqualified to answer, but I am passionate about what I get to do and ready to be stretched and ready to grow and ready to be used. When he asked me I was unprepared to answer. I don’t even remember what I said. But since that day I have asked myself several times “Scott, What is next?” Soon I will post a few things I have come up with.

I will be leading worship in the Modern Services (9 and 10:30) at FBC Smyrna this Sunday the 18th. Micah (associate worship leader) and the student band will also be playing. I count it a great privilege to be able to lead for the whole church. Thanks to Micah and Worship Arts Department for the opportunity

Set list will be:

Beautiful One – Tim Hughes

Marvelous Light – Charlie Hall

God of the CIty – Bluetree (performed by Chris Tomlin)

Majesty – Delirious

This Sunday I will be teaching the church the song “God of the City” and I am really excited to lead and encourage the congregation to get in on what God wants to do in Smyrna, TN and to challenge them to not only be a part of that through our church but ask God how they personally be involved in what Jesus wants to do in our city. Woah I am excited. My parents and little brother will be driving over from Knoxville to be a part of the service as well. They haven’t seen me lead since I moved away so that is another reason to be excited.

I’ll post how it went Sunday afternoon.
